Specialist reading and literacy support for children with dyslexia in Ipoh, Perak.

Dyslexia in Ipoh, Perak

Understanding Dyslexia in Children

Dyslexia is a common, lifelong learning difference that mainly affects reading and spelling. It is not linked to intelligence, and many children with dyslexia are bright, creative and capable in many areas. The difficulty lies in connecting letters to the sounds they make and reading fluently. With structured, multisensory teaching, children with dyslexia learn to read and gain confidence.

At YOUNGFERNS in Ipoh, Perak, our KKM-licensed therapists use evidence-based multisensory literacy instruction and Special Education to help children with dyslexia build practical skills for everyday life. We work closely with your family, your child's school and, where relevant, their paediatrician or medical team, so support stays consistent everywhere your child learns and plays.

Common Signs of Dyslexia

Recognising the signs early helps us tailor support to your child's real, day-to-day needs. Children may show some or all of the following:

  • Slow, effortful or inaccurate reading
  • Difficulty linking letters to their sounds
  • Persistent trouble with spelling and writing
  • Reluctance or anxiety about reading aloud
  • Strong spoken skills that do not match reading ability

Every child develops at their own pace. Support is worth exploring when these signs are frequent, last over time, or affect learning, communication or daily life.

How Dyslexia Affects Daily Life

Because so much of school depends on reading, dyslexia can make classwork exhausting and affect a child's confidence, even when they are clearly capable. Structured literacy support and classroom strategies help children read more fluently and feel proud of what they can do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dyslexia Parent FAQs

At what age can dyslexia be identified?

Early signs can appear in preschool, but dyslexia is often noticed in the early school years when reading is expected. You do not need to wait for a formal label to begin structured literacy support.

Does dyslexia mean my child is not intelligent?

Not at all. Dyslexia is unrelated to intelligence. Many children with dyslexia are highly capable and simply need a different, structured approach to learning to read and spell.

What teaching approach do you use?

We use structured, multisensory literacy methods that build phonological awareness and link sounds, letters and movement together, which is the approach best supported by evidence for dyslexia.

Can you help with school accommodations?

Yes. We can guide you and your child's school on practical accommodations, such as extra time and supportive strategies, so your child can show what they know.

Where is YOUNGFERNS located and which areas do you serve?

YOUNGFERNS is at 18a, Jalan Meru Bestari A4, 31200 Ipoh, Perak (near Mydin Mall Meru). We support families across Ipoh, Meru, Batu Gajah, Taiping, Teluk Intan and the wider Perak region.
