Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most common conditions we support at YOUNGFERNS Ipoh. The single most important message: early identification and intervention makes an enormous, proven difference.
Warning Signs by Age
By 12 months, be concerned if your child:
- Does not babble or make speech-like sounds
- Does not respond to their own name
- Does not make consistent eye contact
- Does not point to share interest in objects
- Does not smile back when smiled at
By 18 months:
- Has no single words at all
- Does not copy simple actions (waving, clapping)
- Seems persistently "in their own world"
- Lines up or spins objects rather than playing with them
By 24 months:
- Has no 2-word phrases (other than echoing TV)
- Has lost language skills they previously had
- Shows very repetitive behaviours (flapping, spinning, rocking)
- Is extremely rigid about routines
Remember: Having one or two of these signs doesn't automatically mean autism, but it does mean you should seek a professional assessment. The goal is not to label, it's to get your child the right support as early as possible.
